The staff of the enterprise gathered together to honour the memory of the blockade victims and congratulate the veterans of the Great Patriotic War.
There are 6 employees who survived the blockade and were awarded with the sign «The citizen of the Siege of Leningrad». The war caught them as children, made them grow up earlier and fight for survival together with adults. Heirs of the military and labour glory of the defenders of Leningrad, they honourably fulfil their duty to strengthen the defence capability of our country, continuing to work at the enterprise.
It is worth noting that during the Great Patriotic War the enterprise kept on working.
Most of the Institute was evacuated to the city of Sverdlovsk in Ural region in the first month of the war, in July 1941.
The workers who remained in Leningrad actively participated in the preparation of the city’s defence, in the completion of urgent works ordered by the front. Their evacuation, scheduled for August 1941, could not be carried out because of the blockade ring that had already been closed around the city.
Many of those who stayed employed during that difficult period were not destined to live to see the end of the blockade. Every month the mourning letters for the Institute announced new and new losses — from cold, dystrophy, bombing and shelling.
The workers of the Institute in Sverdlovsk during the war, in addition to the development of specialised products for the Navy, produced tens of thousands of shells and thousands of devices for the famous «Katyusha» mortars.
